Course Objectives

This course consists of a theoretical and a practical laboratory part.

In the theoretical part, a number of concentration units used to prepare solutions are taught. In addition, the constituents of the body fluids such as urine and blood and also the normal level and function of these and how they change in disease cases will be given. Furthermore, the molecular and biochemical basis and clinical consequences of disease cases including diabetes mellitus, jaundice, phenylketonuria and others are going to be taught.

 

In the practical part, experiments are carried out to analyze the constituents of blood serum. These include determination of total protein, albumin, glucose, bile pigments,urea, total lipid, triglycerides, total hemoglobin, total iron as well as enzymes to test the functions of liver and kidney. In addition serum protein electrophoresis technique will be given.
