By the end of the course, the students will;

Know the period for the initiation and the scope of modernization in the Ottoman Empire,

Identify the impact of modernization on the institutional and political structure, and on the army,

Know the importance of the land system for the administrative, economic and social structure of the Ottoman Empire,

Explain the changing patterns of foreign relations of the Ottoman Empire during the period that the course covers.
