Course Learning Outcomes

Having successfully completed this course, the student will be able to:

employ kinematic influence coefficients for dynamic analysis of mechanical systems.

analyze single degree of freedom systems by constructing the equation of motion and apply analytical and numerical methods to solve for equation of motion.

analyze the effects of friction at prismatic and revolute joints.

analyze the forces on simple and planetary gear trains and construct power flow diagrams.

analyze balancing problems of inertia variant machines and rotating machinery.

design completely-balanced in-line four-bar mechanisms.

design counterweights to reduce shaking forces and moments for in-line multi-cylinder engines
