We will explore the theory and practice of creative nonfiction by examining a variety of forms, including list essay, memoir, personal writing, narrative journalism, travel essay, documentary and such. Meanwhile, we will also learn the core elements of nonfiction, such as voice, character, point of view and scene while exploring how these elements can be used to improve factual description. Emphasis will be placed on building self-confidence and developing students' individual voice as writers and story tellers.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will have:

• grasped the basic dimensions of creative nonfiction —  what the term implies, the forms it takes, its craft elements
• been exposed to different nonfiction genres and numerous voices to start to develop their own
• experimented with some of the forms discussed in class.
