Explain motivation theories (e.g. expectancy-value theory, attribution theory, social cognitive theory, achievement goal theory and self-determination theory)

State how expectancy value constructs are linked to different achievement related outcomes

Describe the functions of locus, stability, and controllability dimensions of attributions in attributional theory

Explain self-efficacy and its role in motivated learning

Define mastery and performance goals and their approach and avoidance forms

Explain how achievement goals are linked to other motivational and cognitive outcomes

Describe the role of self-determination in intrinsic motivation

Distinguish between situational and personal interest

Distinguish between different self constructs

Explain test anxiety and its link to student motivation and learning

Describe the roles of schools in student motivation

Explain the sociocultural influences on student motivation

Explain self-regulation from social-cognitive perspective

Describe the applications of motivation theories to classroom situations

Make presentations on two of the weekly course topics

Review and critique an article/book related to two of the weekly course topics

Present the selected article/book to the whole class

Formulate research question(s) regarding motivation in education

Review relevant literature pertaining to the research question(s)

Develop an appropriate research methodology for addressing research question(s)
