Having successfully completed this course, the student will be able to:

(1) use the concept of structural safety in the design of structural systems;

(2) calculate the design loads (dead, live, wind, and earthquake) per the building codes;

(3) design reinforced concrete slabs;

(4) create finite element models of structural systems using SAP2000;

(5) analyze and design reinforced concrete structures for gravity loads;

(6) analyze and design reinforced concrete structures for lateral loads (wind and earthquake);

(7) prepare design reports and structural drawings;

(8) present the design work orally.
