At the end of this course students will be able to

discuss the development of literary/critical theory from Classical Antiquity to the early Twentieth Century.

identify different literary/critical approaches as reflections or products of the larger schools, movements or periods they belong to.

compare and contrast literary/critical approaches belonging to the same or different historical periods.

identify and discuss the major issues, questions and problems concerning literary theory and criticism.
