English 102 is aimed at developing academic reading and writing skills which students will be using throughout their studies in university. Tasks involving higher order thinking skills will require students not only to perform at knowledge and comprehension levels but to synthesize, evaluate and summarize information, ideas and judgments as well. The variety of texts and perspectives presented through texts in and outside the class will facilitate their critical thinking process and thus enable students to become active and autonomous learners. English 102 is a learner-centered course. This means that learning depends on the students’ participation and involvement in classroom tasks. In other words, students will be learning through doing activities, not merely by listening or being lectured.
