Course Learning Outcomes

Gain familiarity with rockets and propulsion system parts.

Apply the fundamentals of thermodynamics and compressible flow.

Become more aware of current topics in space propulsion.

Learn nozzle types and nozzle flows, rocket vehicle types, engine cycles, types of propellants, combustion behavior of solid rocket propellants; and components of the liquid engine and solid motors, and their functions.

Be able to calculate rocket trajectories, rocket performance parameters, velocity increment requirements for basic missions (vertical launch, earth-to-orbit, and Hohmann transfer), the basic sizing, and staging of rockets.
