The general objectives of ths course are two fold: Introduce students to methods and practices in mathematical research and also enrichawareness of students about ethical issues arising in academia.
The students will learn
- how to approach mathematical research in general,
- how to choose an academic advisor and how to establish a healthy relationship with an advisor,
- how to write a thesis and scientific publications
- about types of scientific publications of how to use specific databases of mathematical publications,
In the ethics part of the course, students will
- learn about academic integrity and general etchical issues arising in academic life
- types of misconduct in academic ethics,
- learn about best practices in publicaton ethics,
- learn about ethical considerations involved in writing a thesis,
- learn types of plagiarism
- learn the use and misuse of indicators of academic indices
- the nature of academic evaluation and refereeing processes, responsibilities and rights of
students, supervisors and administrators in graduate study.
