By the end of the course, the students will be able to
- Identify how a variety of challenging texts represent a range of literary and non-literary genres and a range of media,
- Understand and apply active reading and learning strategies to increase the comprehension and retention of information,
- Identify stated and implied main ideas and evaluate supporting details,
- Use context clues to determine the meanings of unfamiliar words and phrases,
- Analyze and summarize information from reading selections, including main ideas, supporting details, point of view, arguments, biases, and use of evidence,
- Engage in professional work behaviours, including timely completion of assignments, consistent and punctual attendance, and ethical work habits.
