Course Objectives

This course provides a concise survey of architectural developments and major monuments in prehistoric (Anatolian, Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Minoan, Mycenaean), Classical (Greek and Roman), Early Christian, Byzantine, Romanesque and Gothic periods. It introduces the architectural forms, types, typologies, building technologies and materials in due periods. Formal and stylistic characteristics are evaluated with a contextual and comparative approach with the examination of the socio-cultural background in architectural production.
