Course Learning Outcomes

1. Differentiate between the elastic, plastic and elastoplastic material behaviour

2. Discuss origins and/or manufacturing process associated with construction materials such as gypsum, lime and Portland cement and concrete.

3. Describe the composition and structure of the principal reaction products present in Ca-based cementitious materials such as gypsum, lime and Portland cement.

4. Determine the physical and chemical properties of construction materials and its constituents such as coarse and fine aggregates.

5. State and explain the influences of the properties of different constituent materials on short- and long-term concrete performance.

6. Identify the environmental conditions to which structures are exposed and how different construction materials respond to such environments.

7. Apply principles of sustainability for different practical situations such as utilizing supplementary cementitious materials in concrete production.

8. Process the experimental data, report the findings in a systematic and presentable format.
