By the end of the course the students will be able to learn:

- Major political, economic and legal changes in the late Ottoman Empire after the Tanzimat Reforms.

- The rise of nationalisms in the Ottoman Empire and their impact on the Ottoman state and society, political organizations.

- Ottoman Constitutional experiences.

- The cultural and political interaction between the Ottoman Empire and Europe and the impact of this interaction on the Ottoman state apparatus and on the Ottoman society towards building a nation state.

- Connections between the 19th and 20th century wars and the Ottoman crisis and changes in her foreign policy.
