Course Objectives

ENLT 524 examines the historical, theoretical, and pedagogical roots of second language (L2) teacher education in terms of: a) the epistemologies that have informed our views of the knowledge-based of teacher education (both general education and the L2 literature), the nature of knowledge, and who is considered to be a knower, b) the theoretical perspectives that have shaped our views of learning in general, and teacher learning in particular, c) the institutional, social, and cultural contexts that impact on teacher learning and language teaching and d) the current innovations and reform movements in teacher education.
