This course develops students' qualitative research competencies through critical engagement with contemporary methodological debates and hands-on practice. Moving from foundational concepts (ontology, epistemology, methodology) to research process and design, students explore diverse methods, including interviewing, observation, and participatory approaches. The course emphasizes the sociological craft—integrating theory, reflexivity, and ethical awareness—while examining critical and creative research practices across sociocultural contexts.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

• Distinguish between methodological frameworks in social sciences and, particularly, sociological research;
• Design research projects with clear research questions and appropriate methods;
•  Engage with unstructured, semi-structured, and structured interviews;
• Engage with observational techniques and field notes;
• Engage with qualitative data analysis and communicate findings through academic writing;
• Critically evaluate traditional research paradigms and engage with critical, creative and participatory methodologies.
