The subject is important since typical problems occur daily in the practice as surges, floods, and flow conditions generated by the actions of some control sections in the channels.
By learning the new methods on the flood routing problems, the students' confidence and knowledge level will be greatly improved to handle the flood routing methods. Students will learn how to route the flood hydrographs to route over a channel distance. This will be measured by homework assignments.
In addition, the unsteady non-uniform flow concepts in open channel flow will be taught to supplement the unsteady pipe flow concepts given in the course CE534.
Thanks to the course, students will learn how to analyse the unsteady flow conditions in an open channel correctly and predict the flood wave arrival time and its magnitude, etc.
They will build a knowledge base to design hydraulic systems through the design assignments.
