Course Objectives

The course has been designed to introduce students to the field of Special Education and to the special needs of people with disability. The course will examine various categories of disability including congenital and acquired conditions that pose challenges to the normal development and functioning of individuals. The course will examine cognitive and developmental disability, sensory disability, limitation of speech, childhood and adolescent emotional disability, behavioral disability, orthopedic disability and other conditions that pose limitations to learning and social development. Etiology, symptomology, and treatment/management of such conditions within the educational setting will be discussed.
