This course aims to examine theories, issues, and perspectives about work and organizations in the global economy. In this course, we will discuss not only what work used to be like, but also what the recent forms of work are. Classical and recent theoretical debates on work are going to be discussed by emphasizing the links between social processes and the institutions of employment and their domestic and social contexts. We are going to cover the interconnections of economic, social, political and legal factors that shape and change the nature of work within a global context. Each class will be framed around a set of questions which address particular topics that are related to the readings for that week. I will ask you to engage in a meaningful and relevant debate on the questions for the day which is available at metu class system.
