On the completion of this course, the student is expected to:
- Understand the basics of colloid science and its relation to nanoscience
- Understand the thermodynamics of interfaces and its influence at nanoscale.
- Be able to identify the types of interactions in nanostructured fluids and to understand their effect on the stability of dispersions and rheological behaviour of suspensions.
- Be able to describe surface chemistry modification strategies
- Be able to describe the bottom-up approaches for synthesis of nanosized objects and control of their morphology.
- Comprehend how a metallurgical and materials engineer can use the colloidal concepts in the synthesis, structure, processing and performance of nano-sized objects.
