This is the second course in the intermediate Italian language sequence and the last course offered by our department. The objectives of the course are to help students to acquire the ability to use what they have learned by focusing on the essential communicative functions in Italian (describing, comparing, reacting, telling and summarizing, hypothesizing and talking about the future past and present). The course will also help students to achieve a greater comprehension in speaking and writing abilities. Further, this course gives students the opportunity to apply these skills as they learn more about Italian culture through authentic sources. Students will be expected to communicate effectively in Italian .
Students will learn how to:
talk about books, music and movies
talk about italian fashion and brands
talk about Italian fashion stylist
express an opinion in the past
report an opinion expressed
understand enough to follow prolonged speech and take part of conversations successfully
understand a wide range of recorded and broadcast audio material
understand and identify points and detail related to deeper social background ( for example, attitudes and moods, relationships among speakers, proverbs, intonation of words)
develop perception and awareness of Italian culture with the help of Italian newspapers and TV to understand and study in greater depth aspects of contemporary society
understand in detail lengthy, complex texts
express themselves fluently and spontaneously with a good command of words and a broader vocabulary.
express themselves in written form with more clarity and precision
take notes and summarize long texts
Students will study:
use of gerund form (presente and passato)
uses of past and present participle
uses of infinitive form
subjunctive form (congiuntivo presente, passato, imperfetto e trapassato)
if clauses (periodo ipotetico primo e secondo tipo e terzo tipo ).
reported speech with main clause at present or past tense.
