This course serves as a prelude to other courses in the Civil/Structural Engineering curriculum that deal with more advanced courses in structural dynamics, earthquake resistant design and analysis.  It is considered as the pre-requisite course for subsequent courses in earthquake engineering, but has a different emphasis at the stage where it is taught.
