Course Objectives

Neurodegenerative diseases refers to a range of disorders that affect neural cells in the human nervous system. This course aims to provide in-depth knowledge on known pathogenic mechanisms that lead to neural cell death in most common neurodegenerative diseases. There has been extensive research efforts to better understand these disorders and develop therapeutic means, however there is still no effective treatments for neurodegenerative conditions.

This course will not only expand students' theoretical knowledge of neurobiology of neurodegenerative diseases but it also aims to introduce and emphasize state-of-the-art experimental approaches used in the field. One of the important goals of this course is to encourage students to intellectually synthesize a large body of information from primary literature in the field to better understand the molecular biology of the diseases. Therefore, the course is designed to be interactive, and students will be encouraged to ask questions and participate in peer discussions.
