Course Objectives

Students, especially those who are interested in structural engineering, should have an adequate background about the behavior of major structural types, i.e. R/C frame and wall structures, steel frame structures and masonry structures. Courses regarding R/C and steel structures are already offered at undergraduate and graduate levels in the department. This course fills the gap by offering the graduate students the basics of design and analysis of masonry structures since there is still an existing masonry building population together with registered and historical masonry structures. At the end of the semester, the students should have the basic knowledge and skills to understand general masonry behavior and also how to design and analyze such structures by the help of in-class lectures, assignments, exams and projects.
