Course Objectives
- Provide students an understanding of optical materials and optical spectroscopy.
- Provide students necessary introduction knowledge of Maxwell’s Equations, Polarization, Photons and the Density of States, Crystals, Lattices, Lattice Vibrations and Phonons, and nonlinear optical materials to constitute the foundation required for various optical phenomena such as Interband absorption, Free electrons, Plasmons, Excitons, Luminescence centers, Scattering and absorption by phonons.
- Provide students understanding of various advanced optical spectroscopy methods.
