By the end of the semester the student will be able to:
• Identify and describe the major art movements of the 19th and early 20th centuries, including the predominant artists and writers the period.
• Describe some of the major the philosophical, social, political, and scientific events of the time period covered and the corresponding links to movements in art and literature.
• Utilize an interdisciplinary critical methodology to engage with the arts and ideas of a given period that recognizes the interdependence of the creative arts with social, political, and economical developments.
• Offer interpretations as to what art and literature reveal about social and cultural responses to social and political developments.
