At the end of the course, the students are expected to learn the basic political developments and economic processes of the transformation from Ottoman Empire to modern Turkey. The establishment of the Republic of Turkey as a secular and unitary state after the break down of the Ottoman Empire. 
The history of Turkish modernization experience related to the foundation of the new state, the instruction of the Turkish Revolution led by Kemal Atatürk and the Kemalist thought, as the meaning and statement of modernity and secularism in Turkey to young generations and let them figure out its significance.
The course also aims to provide the students who are from various backgrounds and disciplines, with an understanding of Turkish history within the developments of world history; and with knowledge of Turkey among the world of nations in the twentieth century.
