On successful completion of this course, students will be able to

*use linguistic terms and concepts related to the field of pragmatics appropriately where/when necessary

*describe in detail the relationship between the contextual variables and meaning

*explain the relationship between the lexicon, grammar, context and meaning

*list the features of various speech acts and apply this knowledge while analysing various types of data

*describe, compare and contrast the use of various data collection procedures in pragmatics

*assess pragmatic ability in English and Turkish
