Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

- Define and understand the role of downstream purifications in biotechnology.

- Identify and interpret the basic chemical and physical properties of biological substances, especially as related to their separation processes.

- Know the basic sequence of steps leading to a purified bio-product.

- Understand the basic principles, technology and analysis of several purification methods such as centrifugation, filtration and chromatography.

- Perform an in depth investigation of novel or contemporary topics in downstream operations.
