Course Objectives
- Learn physical and chemical properties of crude oils and natural gases.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of the sedimentary basins and petroleum system models in various types of sedimentary basins.
- Understand how hydrocarbons occur in source rocks, migrate and accumulate in reservoir rock, how confined in trap structures at subsurface.
- Have a basic understanding of geological, geophysical and geochemical methods used in the search for hydrocarbon reserves.
- Learn details on how to begin evaluating a hydrocarbon play and developing a prospect.
- Develop skills in correlating reservoir rock layers and recognizing normal faults, reverse faults and unconformities from log data.
- Develop ability to construct subsurface contour maps and estimating the volumetrics.
