The course aims at familiarizing students with modern and contemporary theories of art through readings of twentieth and twenty-first century authors and visual analysis of artworks, with the conviction that all architects and designers, as well as all university educated have to have a relation to art for their development of taste, perception and environmental scrutiny.

The course will proceed with the discussion of assigned readings and individual investigation of assigned artistic movements; each session one student will be expected to act as moderator to help the class discussion. Grading will largely depend on active participation in class and secondarily on assigned papers’ quality.  Class attendance is  an important factor in evaluation.
