This M.A course is designed as a seminar to provide an introductory overview of topics in pragmatics and socio-pragmatic constraints on spoken interaction. One by one, in light of recent approaches to the analysis of everyday communciation, classroom discourse and institutional spoken interaction, we will be engaged in speech act and event analysis, in conversation analytic approaches to interaction analysis, and in cross-cultural and corpus-based approaches to discourse and conversation.
