Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- explain the structure of major affective variables and their relationship to one another
- explain the process of scale development
- describe scaling options, item formats, and scoring methods
- critically evaluate psychometric quality of instruments
- distinguish between various types of reliability and validity
- describe the relationship of reliability to validity
- write about theoretical concepts underlying the construction of a scale and develop appropriate test items for the scale
- identify when factor analysis is appropriate
- apply factor analysis to real data and interpret the results from factor analysis
- communicate for the discipline by creating, piloting, analyzing, writing, and reporting on an original scale designed for the class
