After accomplishing the objectives of this course, the students will be able to:
- Explain the features of the structural ceramics in terms of raw materials, processing, and properties
- Describe the materials used and their function in the production of structural ceramics
- Apply fundamental concepts related to phase diagrams for processing of structural ceramic bodies
- Describe the processing routes and characteristics of ceramic materialss for the production of structural applications
- Select and analyze ceramic processing methods for the production of a component for structural applications
- Explain the properties (e.g. physical, thermal, mechanical) of ceramic materials and relate the property to the microstructure developed during processing
- Select and recommend a ceramic material for specific structural application
- Identify and explain the limitations of ceramics for structural use/applications
