At the end of the semester, the students are expected to
1. gain essential background on continuum mechanics
2. be able to construct the kinematic relations for a deforming body in the reference and deformed configurations,
3. gain mathematical and physical restrictions on material theories, and
4. learn the notion of hyperelastic materials and linearization of field equations leading to linear elasticity.
