With a particular focus on English as it is used in the international media by native writers and speakers, ENGL 411 aims to:

1. build confidence in oral and written communication in English;

2. build on critical thinking and problem-solving skills to discover, use, analyze, and evaluate information;

3. equip learners with essential language skills to question and to articulate their point of view; 

4. develop a curiosity to access knowledge and information through reference skills (consulting a dictionary/thesaurus, library, the Internet, etc.);

5. facilitate self-learning to enable them to become independent learners
