The course will deal with the development of history writing from ancient Greece to present. Various definitions and debates, methodological approaches and conceptual concerns related with historical understanding and historical inquiry are among the topics of the course. Classes will be organized around selected authors and their writings from various periods of history. Change in historiography and the understanding of history will form the basic outline of the class. The class will also analyze Middle East historiography and the Ottoman history writing through selected authors from different periods.
