By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Develop relations and calculate the thermodynamic properties of real substances
- Use Equation of States to evaluate the thermodynamic properties of pure substances or species in mixtures
- Understand the phases of pure materials, identify and analyze the equilibrium criteria in one-component systems or mixtures
- Calculate the fugacity and fugacity coefficient of pure species and species in the mixtures using equations of state, generalized correlations or PVT data
- Understand the mixtures and evaluate their properties using appropriate models and equations.
- Apply Lewis-Randall rule, Raoult’s law, and Henry’s law where appropriate to calculate the fugacity and/or equilibrium properties.
- Use activity models such as Margules equation, van Laar equation, etc. to evaluate activity coefficients of substances.
- Determine the chemical reactions equilibrium constants, and to evaluate the effect of different variables on the extent of reaction
