Course Learning Outcomes

Having successfully completed this course, the student will be able to:

1. Understand the basic concepts in electrical circuits: Charge, current, voltage, power and energy. Identify basic circuit elements such as resistor, voltage and current sources.

2. Identify basic laws in electrical circuits: Ohm’s Laws, Kirchhoff’s Laws, Series Resistors and Voltage Division, Parallel Resistors and Current Division.

3. Understand circuit theorems Thevenin’s theorem, Norton’s theorem and principle of superposition.

4. Understand operational amplifier circuits: Ideal Op-Amp, inverting amplifier, non-inverting amplifier, summing amplifiers and cascaded Op- Amp circuits design and analysis.

5. Analyze electrical circuits using nodal and mesh analysis.

6. Understand the fundamentals of energy storage elements (capacitors and inductors).

7. Analyze first-order circuits: The source-free RC circuit, the source-free RL circuit, circuits with DC sources, step response of the circuits.

8. Analyze second-order circuits: The source-free circuits, circuits with DC sources.
