At the end of this course, students will be able to:

1) Write an essay on the history of Ottoman women.

2) Recognize the effects of the reforms that started during the Tanzimat Period and continued in the later years on the status, conditions, and lives of Ottoman women.

3) Define women’s contribution to the production and economy in the Ottoman Empire.

4) Explain Ottoman women’s efforts to liberate themselves from the traditional obstacles via education, professions, press, and associations.

5) Identify Ottoman women’s contribution to the country in national matters, participation in the wars, politics, and to the foundation of Modern Turkey.
