Course Learning Outcomes
- Find pleasure and enjoyment in children’s literature through reading many children’s books.
- Evaluate children’s books for their literary and artistic strengths and weaknesses and develop this ability through interactive literature discussion groups.
- Acquire survey knowledge of Turkey and international children’s literature: to have read and appreciated some prose and poetry of all kinds for young children.
- Know the life and works of one author and/or one illustrator.
- Begin building a personal library of children’s books and professional books in this field.
- Aware of various kinds of children’s literature, including literature that represents the diversity of our society – by gender, race, ethnicity, language, religion, and about individuals with disabilities.
- Demonstrate an ability to make interesting and informative presentations.
- Demonstrate an ability to read orally in an entertaining fashion.
- Acquire an array of techniques to asses reading interests, behaviors, and attitudes through alternative assessment strategies, such as running records of books read and enjoyed, reading interest inventories, checklists, interviews, observation, library records, and student response papers and to involve parents and children in book-related activities.
