Course Learning Outcomes
- Explain and specify materials, and material combinations suitable for civil engineering structures.
- Discuss origins and/or manufacturing process associated with construction materials such as gypsum, lime and portland cement, concrete, steel, polymers and clay bricks
- Describe the composition and structure of the principal reaction products present in Ca-based cementitious materials such as gypsum, lime and portland cement.
- Determine the physical and chemical properties of construction materials and its constituents.
- State and explain the influences of the properties of different constituent materials on short- and long-term concrete performance.
- Identify the environmental conditions to which structures are exposed and how different construction materials respond to such environments.
- Apply principles of sustainability for different practical situations such as utilizing supplementary cementitious materials in concrete production.
- Process the experimental data, report the findings in a systematic and presentable format.
