Course Objectives

This course aims to provide students with a thorough grounding in the underpinning theory and methods of forensic and investigative psychology. Explanations of criminal behavior along with various types of crimes will be introduced to build a foundation. A range of methods that are used to gather investigative information will be described and critically examined. Students will be familiarized with methods to assess the reliability and validity of investigative information and detection of deception strategies. As a core subject of the course, profiling- as a means of utilizing investigative information- will be explained and various schools of profiling will be critically evaluated. The course will also bring up ethical dilemmas in forensic settings and set a ground for informed discussions based on psychological and forensic principles.
