At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- make use of core concepts of corpus linguistics in learning and teaching English as a foreign language
- discuss particular issues that are of interest to corpus linguists (e.g. How big should a corpus be? Is the data from a corpus reliable? What are its applications for translation/language teaching/learning)
- explore the techniques of investigating a corpus, and demonstrate the application of online corpora in a wide variety of fields (e.g. instructional material development and adaptation, assessment and evaluation)
- explore and analyze the English language with a range of corpus tools and create corpus-informed instructional materials
