To enable the students to comprehend the fundamental principles of masonry behavior and to apply them in to the analysis and design of masonry structures.
To provide the students with an understanding of the mechanics of masonry elements subjected to various load effects including bending, shear, and axial forces.
To discuss the code principles of masonry structures and in turn to develop engineering judgment to design safe and efficient masonry structures, especially from the viewpoint of seismic behavior.
To assess the current state of construction practice for masonry structures in Turkey in accordance with the available building databases.
To provide introductory background on the special topics regarding structural masonry; such as reinforced masonry construction and historical masonry structures.
