Course Objectives

Technology Assessment (TA) constitutes a scientific and societal response to problems at the interface between technology and society. TA is characterized by the combination of knowledge production, the evaluation of this knowledge from a societal perspective, and its relationship to society and politics. Responsible Research & Innovation (RRI) is the scientific research and technological development process that considers the current and potential societal and environmental impacts. The students will understand the idea, concept, and stakeholders of TA&RRI and how it applies to the development of different technologies. TA’s basic assumptions, main goals, and methods are explained. Both the society and the policy angles of TA&RRI’s roles are discussed. The course material is enriched with similar concepts, such as risk assessment, responsible research, and innovation, impact assessment, social life cycle assessment, etc.
