Having completed this course, the student will be able to
- Recognize trapping mechanisms of oil in the reservoir and reasons of low recovery.
- Analyze/screen field properties and determine/recommend a appropriate EOR method.
- Recognize immiscible displacement mechanisms in conventional oil reservoirs
- Apply fractional flow concepts and Welge method to estimate recovery and sweep efficiency for immiscible displacement processes.
- Calculate breakthrough time, injection rates and volumes required for recovery, and incremental oil recovery.
- Apply mobility control, wettability change, phase behavior and reduction of surface tension concepts to improve enhanced oil recovery techniques.
This course provides the foundation for advanced recovery techniques. The principles and skills learned here apply to solution of reservoir engineering and management problems.
