Having successfully completed this course, the student will be able to:
- An ability to recognize physical properties of fluids and use them in basic fluid mechanics problems, convert units, examine dimensional homogeneity in expressions
- An ability to analyze fluid statics problems and examine pressure measurement setups
- An ability to distinguish dynamic and total pressures, apply Bernoulli’s equation to fluid mechanics problems without energy loss
- An ability to examine velocity and acceleration fields, formulate pathlines, streamlines, and streaklines, express Eulerian and Lagrangian flow descriptions
- An ability to illustrate control volume analysis and analyze fluid mechanics problems that require the use of conservation of mass, momentum, and energy principles
- An ability to carry out dimensional analysis, recognize common dimensionless groups, apply Buckingham Pi theorem to model studies
