Course Objectives

To understand the classification of polymers, bonding in polymers, and stereoisomerism

To get an overview on polymer synthesis: Condensation polymerization, addition polymerization, and copolymerization

To understand the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution in polymers

To understand polymer solutions and polymer solution thermodynamics

To understand physical states and transitions in polymers

To understand crystallinity and morphology of polymers

To get an introduction on rheology: elasticity, purely viscous flow, and linear viscoelasticity

To have an overview of polymer processing: extrusion, calendering, coating, casting, injection molding, blow molding, and melt spinning

To get an introduction on the mechanical properties of polymers

To get an overview of commercial polymers and additives
