At the end of this course the student will learn about:

* the transition from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic of Turkey as part of an underlying process of transformation in the nineteenth century, namely modernization.

* establishing necessary connection points to the Republican era.

* the Tanzimat period, the Hamidian rule and the Second Constitutional era and their connection to the following Republican era
